Eng:

Gather 'round, fair denizens of the realm, for I bring tidings of an explosive duo of cinematic excellence, set to make their action-packed appearance on our humble cinema screen this very semester!

All fans of awful aliens, ghastly gore, thrilling action and jaw-dropping practical effects, rejoice! For we have heard your cries of lament and it is to quench your unmistakable thirst we have decided to curate such a fine pair of motion pictures in our current programme.

“Xtro is an ugly, mean-spirited and despairing thriller that left me thoroughly depressed. Why was this movie made?"
- Roger Ebert

First up in our double duo of two is the 1982 Harry Bromley Davenport directed science fiction horror classic, Xtro.

One fateful day during a family vacation to the English countryside, Sam and his son are suddenly blasted by an intense and blindingly bright light that abruptly appears in the sky above them. Chaos and confusion follows, and when the bewildering event is over Sam has disappeared, leaving wife Rachel and son Tony devastated in grief.

Three years after the traumatic event Sam unexpectedly reappears in their lives, but his behavior is a bit wanky, and quite unsettling, is he still the same? And where has he been for the past years?

Shortly summarized this film is a synthesizer scored eerie showcase of practical effects brilliance, packed to the brim with unique and unforgettably horrific scenes, a mysterious plot and fine acting from end to end. It is a production that must be witnessed to be fully appreciated, for mere words cannot capture the true essence of its bewildering majesty.

“I don't know what I was expecting, but certainly not this original and efficient thriller.”
- Roger Ebert on The Hidden

The second feature of the evening is science fiction action thriller The Hidden from 1987.

Prepare your intellectual faculties, for this script is not your standard issue predictable old action-thriller storyline we’ve seen oh so many times before, but rather a fine piece of cerebrally engaging science fiction marvel!

Ordinary citizen Jack DeVries, with no prior criminal record, suddenly goes on a wild and violent, city-wide rampage. To tackle the case, hard headed police detective Thomas Beck, played by Michael Nouri, partners up with quirky FBI Special Agent Lloyd Gallagher, played by Kyle MacLachlan. United the pair embark on the dangerous assignment of tracking down the unhinged suspect.

Under the masterful direction of esteemed filmmaker Jack Sholder, director of such works as A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2 and Wishmaster 2, the streets of Los Angeles become a stage of homicidal and frenetic choreography. Throughout this magnificent fast-paced joyride of a motion picture, Jack Sholder invites our senses to be enraptured, our hearts to quicken, and our eyes to witness a visual spectacle of modern weaponry, vehicular pursuits, and wild explosive encounters!
