It starts in Nunavut, northern Canada. The Greenlandic Inuk lawyer and activist Aaju Peter has lived here since she moved from Greenland. As an academically gifted child she was taken out of her family home to attend school in Denmark. A decision that resulted in her losing her mother tongue and her alienation in both Greenland and Denmark. When she sought a new home as a young adult, it was under the colonial rule of Canada.
Twice Colonized follows her through roughly 7 years, during her effort to establish an Indigenous forum in the EU, facing a sudden family tragedy and leaving an abusive relationship. Her journey leads her to facing the deep trauma of forced assimilation and reclaiming her identity and language. Even through all of her hardships, both systemic and personal, Peter maintains her strength and will to fight for the decolonization of the Arctic.
