As part of the triple bill to celebrate BFK 65th anniversary we would like to showcase a film made by Hollywood auteur director, “The Nutty Professor” himself, Jerry Lewis, and his film The Ladies Man (1961)!

Herbert H. Heebert (Jerry Lewis) is a recent college graduate and his heart has been shattered. His college sweetheart leaves him for another man. After this incident, he vows to be a bachelor for life and swear off women. Looking for a job, Herbert H. Heebert goes from place to place, and finally settles down as a houseboy for a large boarding house. He finds out not long after, that the place is inhabited by dozens of young women! What will Herbert H. Heebert do?

Film expert Paolo Mereghetti referred to Il Posto as an “anti-spectacular” film. Indeed, Il Posto speaks as much through its dialogue as it does through its silences. Without explicit criticism, with a slow pace and empathetic view, Olmi invites us to reflect about how much we are willing to sacrifice for a job.

The Ladies Man (1961) is Jerry Lewis second directorial feature film after The Bellboy (1960). Here you see a man who gets full control of his film and makes a four-story doll house-like interior of a mansion. Most of the film takes place in the mansion. Rooms full of character and distinct interior designs. The Ladies Man is a laugh-out-loud riot, full of improvisational gags and set-pieces. Through varying results. If anything The Ladies Man is a technical marvel that hasn’t been replicated on this scale.
