Serap Berrakkarasu, a filmmaker born in Istanbul in 1962, made her mark with a powerful directorial debut in 1989 under the auspices of the LAG Film in Hamburg. Her film Töchter zweier Welten (1991) poignantly portrays Turkish migrant women from diverse generations, and its inclusion in the prestigious Berlinale retrospective "Selbstbestimmt" in 2019 is a testament to its profound impact. Berrakkarasu further solidified her talent with "Ekmek parasi," a documentary that received the Documentary Film Award at the esteemed Nordic Film Days in 1994. Today, she resides in Lübeck, where her contributions extend beyond the realm of filmmaking as she works diligently at the Youth Migration Service (JMD) of the Gemeindediakonie, shaping the lives of young migrants with her expertise and compassion.
